    Wintry view of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the Promontory Mountains. This is National Wildlife Refuge Week and in celebration I wanted to do a pictorial essay that includes some of my images of the Birds of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.. Plus I’ve added a few landscape images which show the beauty of the marshes on the refuge and I hope the serenity I find at the refuge shows in. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge’s mission is to provide necessary habitats for the provision of food and cover needed to fulfill lifecycle events such as migration, staging, feeding, and breeding of migratory bird species using the Refuge, with an emphasis on focal species and native wildlife.

Activities available at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge include wildlife observation, wildlife photography, environmental education and interpretation, hunting and fishing. The Refuge’s auto tour route is open daylight hours year-round, weather and road conditions permitting.

The Auto Tour is a mile loop through the heart of the Refuge. Wildlife & Habitat. The Refuge and other wetlands associated with the Great Salt Lake provide critical habitat for migrating birds (like the American avocets above) from both the Pacific and Central Flyway of North America.

This area contains abundant food for birds, including very important brine shrimp and other macroinvertebrates as well as necessary plants like sago pondweed. Now, the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is one of the best birding destinations in the entire world. Located only miles from Brigham City, Utah, it’s a perfect way to spend a day visiting the Wildlife Education Center, exploring the wetlands and waterfowl habitat along the auto tour route, fishing the Bear River and check out other nearby attractions.
